The Foundation aims to inspire and support young people across Greater Manchester to take an active role in civic and political life, helping them to build the confidence, knowledge, and opportunities needed to shape their communities and futures. We are currently in the early stages of setting up the Foundation and developing our work.

Mission statement

The Foundation is established in memory of the late Sir Tony Lloyd MP to inspire, educate, and empower young people across Greater Manchester to play an active role in politics, governance, and civic life. Through partnership, participation, and democratic engagement, the Foundation seeks to continue Tony’s lifelong commitment to public service and social justice by ensuring the next generation has the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to shape their communities and futures.

Objectives

1) To create and support opportunities for young people to engage in governance, politics, and civic life by participating in political and decision-making processes.

2) To work with educational institutions and youth organisations to encourage participation in community and civic life, build community trust, generate social cohesion, and promote inclusion.

3) To support young people to reach their full potential and shape their futures through political, civic, and community engagement.

4) To promote democratic participation and engagement through voter education, encouraging young people and first-time voters to exercise their right to vote.

Politics is all about people. It’s that sense of human solidarity that matters. If it’s not about making people’s lives better, then don’t be a politician.
