Rochdale MP, Tony Lloyd, has said that “Everyone should have the right to breathe clean air, but air pollution is one of the largest environmental risks to public health.
“Between 28,000 to 36,000 deaths can be attributed to air pollution in the UK every year. That should worry us all.
“There are things the government could be doing to tackle this, such as utilising the potential of remote sensing satellites to pinpoint the causes of air pollution. This identifies sources of pollution and gives the opportunity to place control those who pollute.
“This would help ensure that everyone has the right to breathe clean air.”
Tony is one of 15 cross-Party MPs in signing a Parliamentary motion calling for action now on this. The motion also “notes that the level of air pollutants in more than 97% of UK homes exceeds the World Health Organization’s guidelines”
