Tony Lloyd: Get Ready for Giving Tuesday

Tony Lloyd, Member of Parliament for Rochdale, met with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) at the Labour Party Conference this week to discuss the essential role that Rochdale charities play in bringing communities together, and how you can get ready for Giving Tuesday.

Tony Lloyd MP said: “CAF’s research has shown that nearly everyone, regardless of how they voted in the referendum, think it is important that people help others and most believe that charities have an important role in society.

“Charities do vital work to help us understand the issues facing their beneficiaries and how government policy affects their work, so Party Conference is a great opportunity to talk to those representing this essential sector.

At a time when society is more divided than ever, we are also seeing fewer people giving to charity.

“At a time when society is more divided than ever, we are also seeing fewer people giving to charity. I shared stories of the vital work done by Rochdale charities, including the different charities involved with Real Change Rochdale and Petrus, and discussed the variety of different ways people can get involved with their favourite charity, be it donating, volunteering, or taking part in sponsored activities.

“One way that charities can promote the fantastic work they do is through the Giving Tuesday campaign, a global day of giving run in the UK by CAF which holds the world record for the most amount of money raised online in 24 hours. CAF’s aim is to help as many charities as possible to make the most out of the day and celebrate the causes we all care about.

“I encourage local charities, businesses and individuals to get in touch with CAF if they want to know more about Giving Tuesday, which takes place on Tuesday 3rd December this year.”
